“Create more, consume less”
I came across this phrase at the beginning of January when I was about to move to Chicago and was trying to set intentions for the year ahead. 2017 was a year full of consumption for me. Yes, I do create a daily newspaper (or several) every day at my job but in my downtime, I would constantly be reading, watching, listening and scrolling. This habit was not necessarily a bad one as I learned so much in 2017, but at the end of the year, I realized that I had started and not finished several projects, this blog is one.
So its 2018 and I want to try blogging again. Part of creating more means that I need to set aside more time for the act of writing. I also need to be mindful of what exactly I am consuming. Distraction had me convinced that reading 3 email newsletters a day with the daily news was a necessity, that scrolling through my phone in the morning and before bed was what I needed to do.
In 2017 I told myself I was going to blog, but I did not truly set aside the time needed to accomplish my goal, which is why it failed. This year I am a little more determined and organized. I hope you will join me along on this experiment of telling stories, wherever I may find them.
Some things that have inspired and motivated me lately.
